Description (eng)
The demographic shift towards a long-lived society suggests that affordability and maintenance of the current care system in Austria will be one of the major challenges in the coming decades. Within the framework of institutionalized care, it appears difficult to meet this demand. In Austria, family members are already considered an important part of the care system. In order to meet the coming challenges in the care sector, they will continue to play a significant role in the future. However, the well-being and health of the caregivers must not be forgotten. Family Group Conferences, with its participatory approach to problem-solving, represents a way to support and relieve caregivers and their environment. For a more widespread, institutionally linked, and financially supported implementation of this method, a partnership with strong stakeholders is necessary. Insights into what information and support potential referrers need are required. This study therefore investigates the research question of potential the stakeholders (federal states, PVA, ÖGK), within the context of caring for the elderly, see in the Family Group Conferences and how and if they can imagine an implementation. The research results have shown that Family Group Conferences are largely unknown to stakeholders in Austria. While there is some interest in the method, there are reservations regarding financing and implementation and disagreement over areas of responsibility. As part of the research, potential future pilot projects have been identified.
