This thesis is about the security of the Session Initiation Protocol. There should be pointed out, how safe this Protocol is against attacks of third persons. It is to be demonstrated whether it is possible to protect commercial applications of the protocol in a way that the handling is still simple. The first part of the work deals with the bases of cryptology. In the second section the SIP Protocol and its safety is described. The last part of the work treats the possibilities, to make the SIP Protocol safer by the help of authentication mechanisms. The complexity of practical implementation and user friendliness of the mechanisms is to be pointed out.
