Audio recording, mastering and editing have been time consuming and expensive for a long time. The introduction of the computer in the audio business was a great relief and started to make things more easy. It also led to a reduction in size and amount of peripherals and thus made it possible to take more and more functions with you to your set. The final effort of this thesis is to describe a mobile, rack mounted audio recording and post production system based on a computer. Only the peripherals needed most are beeing used and everything else is done by the computer. All of the components are fitted into an approximately 1.5 meter high 19” rack, which stands on rolls. To say this system is mobile is quite right if you try not to think in terms of mobility with sizes like cell phones or laptop computers. This rack is sure enough transportable by one person and it easily fits into a regular sized van. The big advantage of this system is, that everything you will need in most cases is built in and ready for service. Once you get to your set all you have to do is to unload the rack, open it, find a socket for the power supply, put the monitor on top of the rack and place the keyboard in front of you to get the system up and running. During a longer period of recordings, or when you can’t reach your studio, you can start post processing the recorded material directly at the set and even burn a preview CD for the producer. This is a quite nice feature. It can save precious time and money because it will make the communication between the producer and you easier. All in all, it may take a little more time to set up the computer in a proper way, but as soon as it runs, it will do you a great job and can safe you a lot of time, troubles and money.
