This diploma thesis focuses on the m-commerce field of e-business and is intended to be a guide for both content providers and service developers to successful action. Chapter one gives a sight into the terms used and the technical enablers for mobile commerce. It shows the hype and reality of mobile bandwidth, the recent technologies and what is yet to come and provides some basic technical knowledge to the reader. Chapter two is an analysis of competition according to Porter, who divides every field of business in five key factors: strength of buyers and suppliers, strength of new competitors, rivalry of existing competitors and the danger of substitution products. It gives a brief look into Japan’s i-mode service, defines the current situation in Austria and sums up the outcome in five vital success factors for mobile businesses. Chapter three shows the possibilities of business models for mobile. There are some key findings due to the detailed analysis. It also shows the mostly ambivalent relationship between customer, mobile phone provider, content provider, the advertising sector and tries to develop strategies for tomorrows challenges.
Finally chapter four postulates the winner strategies for the years to come. Depending on some external factors, which can only be influenced indirectly there is a variety of strategies to implement in one’s business. A list of five fundamental strategies for winning in mobile e-markets stands at the end of this diploma thesis representing its pure essence.
