Tod und Trauer stellen nicht nur innerhalb der Gesellschaft, sondern auch in der Sozialen Arbeit Randthemen dar. Da sie aber jeden Menschen betreffen und Sozialarbeiter*Innen somit in ihrem Arbeitsalltag zwangsläufig damit konfrontiert werden, ist es von Relevanz zu untersuchen, welche Handlungsmöglichkeiten für sie in der Beratung und Betreuung von trauernden und vor dem Verlust eines Elternteils stehenden Klient*Innen existieren und welche Unterstützungsprozesse für diese, insbesondere Kinder und Jugendliche, daraus abgeleitet werden können. Die Daten wurden anhand von drei Expert*Innen-Interviews nach Meuser/Nagel (1991) gewonnen und mittels der Methode des offenen Kodierens nach Strauss/Corbin (1996) ausgewertet. Ein zentrales Ergebnis ist, dass die Soziale Arbeit dank ihres ganzheitlichen Blickwinkels eine Vielzahl an Unterstützungsmöglichkeiten bieten kann.

Death and loss are not only treated as side issues in society but also in social work. Nonetheless social workers face them on a daily base in their working life, because death and loss are topics, that concern every human being. For this reason, it is relevant to examine, which options for action social workers have in order to support clients, especially children and adolescents, affected by the loss of a parent. The data was collected by three expert-interviews according to Meuser and Nagel (1991) and analysed by using methods based on the Grounded Theory according to Strauss and Corbin (1996). One of the most important results is that, thanks to its holistic perspective, social work is able to offer a multitude of options to support children and adolescents affected by the loss of a parent.
